How to spot a real suit before you buy

A real suit is not about loud marketing. It is about cloth, structure, stitching, and fit. If those four things are wrong, the suit will show it fast.

When I talk about real versus fake in Thailand, I mean the difference between a garment that was built to fit and one that was simply pushed out the door. The good news is that you can learn the signs in a few minutes.

Look at the cloth first

  • Natural cloth usually feels more honest in the hand.
  • Cheap synthetic cloth often looks shiny or stiff.
  • Good fabric should drape instead of fighting your body.

Check the construction

  • Does the jacket hold its shape without feeling like cardboard?
  • Are the seams clean and even?
  • Do the lapels lie flat the way they should?
  • Does the garment still move when you sit and walk?

Check the fit on your body

Even a good cloth fails if the shoulders are wrong or the jacket pulls when you move. A real tailor asks about posture, movement, and where you will wear the suit. That is what separates a custom fit from a quick sale. That is why the tailoring process matters.

Questions worth asking

  • What fabric is this, exactly?
  • How many fittings are included?
  • What changes can still be made after the first try-on?
  • Will this work in hot weather, or just under shop lights?

If you want a suit that passes the real-life test, start with the custom suits page and then come in for a fitting. A suit should hold up after the shop visit, not just during it.
